An Independent Voice
by Councillor George Black
WELL, I see that councillor Martin Rooney has joined into the populist activity created by New Labour the area.
Known in the third estate as 'virtual reality', which is perceived by adherents of this party as being the real world.
They do not recognise their own propaganda as spin and, having created it, they then become believers.
This is witnessed by the fact that since they got rid of Tory Blair and his arch henchman Big Broon, we have discovered that Ed Balls, Ed Milliband, David Milliband, Jack Straw and various other assorted charlatans have stated publicly that they did not support the war in Iraq.
It makes you wonder why, with so many prominent members against the war, we ever got into it in the first place?
This sorry bunch along with our own Douglas Alexander, who was on radio Scotland last week defending Tory Blair's wonderful contribution to stability in the Middle East, typify what is wrong with New Labour - no substance, no values and no connection with ordinary people.
But to events nearer home.
A couple of weeks ago our very own "Hans Christian Rooney" wrote an extensive piece on my villainous activities and described me as a Tory in the local Labour Party's news sheet called, I believe, The Lomond Rose.
Although it is more like Tokyo Rose in terms of propaganda.
Last month, Hans Christian Rooney got himself into a lather in council over Securitisation of Assets or, as he described it, sweating the assets.
I thought that he was going to do himself an injury he became so excited at the prospect of borrowing £35m and repaying £74m for the privilege.
In fairness to Councillor Rooney, when I asked him how much we would have to repay he didn't know as no one had worked it out for him.
I must also comment that he did not seem to be unduly perturbed when I told him how much the repayment would be, nor did he seem to be grateful for the information which I shared with him.
This is not surprising for one so deep in denial that he still thinks it is a good deal to pay a mean average of £175m each for three schools, a total of £524m which we shall be paying for the next 30 years.
Incidentally, the market value of the schools is approximately £35m each, so we are in negative equity.
I hope that no-one calls in our debt.
The grain of truth contained in Hans Christian's utterances is the fact that I did not support his group's budget, which contained the points he referred to.
He neglects of course to mention two basic unpalatable truths:
1. His budget was incompetent IT DID NOT BALANCE and;
2. Hans Christian Rooney and his group did not share their budget with anyone including officers prior to the council meeting.
This does not give anyone outside the group an opportunity to examine and possibly support their proposals.
The SNP group shared its budget with everyone, asking for comment and input.
I shared my humble submission, which was competent. If these people were at playschool the comment would surely be 'doesn't mix or share with others'. I am perhaps being unfair to Hans Christian Anderson, who was an entertaining fellow, as most of Councillor Rooney's utterances are Grimm.
