As a pensioner, the freeze on Council Tax over the last two years has been very welcome.

In fact everything seemed to be going fine until those bankers, who received obscene amounts of money for their so-called expertise, got it absolutely wrong and we all ended up in the grubber.

Now Gordon Brown has clawed back £800m from the Scottish Government which has in turn cut the grant to local authorities.

Now West Dunbartonshire Council is having to find ways to make up the shortfall.

It has only three ways of balancing the books - increase charges, make cuts to services or increase the Council Tax.

Making cuts in services can really only save money if they involve redundancies.

Which leaves us with increasing the Council Tax, which would also hit the people on low income like, may I say, like pensioners.

But never mind me, I am sure I could do without heating or the odd meal so I could afford to pay an increase in my Council Tax to subsidise other's lifestyles.
