Scottish Pipe Band Championships
IRISH band Field Marshal Montgomery made it four-in-a-row after scooping top honours at the 2012 Scottish Pipe Band championships in Dumbarton on Saturday. The Northern Irish outfit - the current World Champions - set their stall out for the season by clinching the Grade One title in the first major of the year. Dumbarton FC's loyal fans are still celebrating a Son-sational victory after the club won promotion to the Scottish First Division. An army of hopeful Sons supporters created an electric atmosphere at Airdrie United's stadium on Sunday - and saw their heroes batter the Diamonds 4-1 to earn a 6-2 aggregate triumph.

Joan Macgregor Charity Football Match
CONTROVERSIAL ex-politician Tommy Sheridan led a star-studded line up in a charity football match set up to help terminally ill patients marry before its too late. We told previously how Dumbarton man Charles MacGregor, 42, was staging the special sporting event to raise cash for the memorial fund set up in memory of his sweetheart Joan. Charles married Joan at the Beatson Hospital in Glasgow before she passed away aged 42 in May 2009 and he wants to help others who face a similar heartbreaking situation do the same.

Two brave reporters got stripped for action when they had their legs WAXED to raise cash for earthquake victims. Daredevil scribes Robert Moore, 25, and Andrew Gibson, 27 - staff journalists with the Clyde Weekle Press series - showed they were real men when they decided to have their hairy legs shorn of their fur. The fundraising fun was to raise money for Mary's Meals Haiti Earthquake Appeal. Now running for more than two years, the appeal helps rebuild shattered lives on the Carribbean island which was struck by a massive tremor in January 2010. The lads whelped and yelped at Whispering Willows beauty salon in Dumbarton as beautician Alisha Johnson struggled to keep a straight face.

A special sporting tribute was held in memory of a Dumbarton man on Saturday (March 31). Footy-fan Calvin Hamilton, 21, died alongside Castlehill dad-of-four Shaun McArthur, 35, after the van they were travelling in was involved in a head-on crash with a heavy goods lorry on the A77 in Maybole, Ayrshire. Following his tragic death, pals of the former Dumbarton Academy youngster rallied together and arranged the community event in just a matter of weeks - organising a special match between Westcliff FC and Clydeshore FC.

Science Week at Christie Park Primary
YOUNG Einsteins at an Alexandria school enjoyed National Science Week so much that they plan to stretch it out for a MONTH. The tiny tech-heads from Christie Park Primary got stuck into a range of weird and wacky subjects as boffins from the University of Strathclyde swung by to bring the subject to life. Fun activities saw the junior geniuses learn about everything from earth and space to sound, light and even robotics.

Trainers Day at Haldane Primary
PUPILS at Haldane Primary school toed the line with thousands of kids from across Scotland in donning trainers to show support for the build-up to the Glasgow event. The energetic youngsters from the Balloch primary sported the trendy footwear during normal lesson time. And they played a range of sports in the school's gym hall as they geared up for the games in just two summers' time.

The top pupil went back to Dalreoch Primary, scene of his life in short-trousers, to meet with the up and coming kids and tell them what's in store at high school.
