WEST Dunbartonshire Amateur Swim Club have had a busy summer with their swimmers winning medals and setting records up and down the country.

The local club were represented at events in Tollcross, Edinburgh, Sheffield, Ayr and Greenock.

A selection of their results are as follows: Scottish National Open Championships June 25-28 Tollcross International Swimming Centre CHLOE Barclay, Erica Boutell, Craig Cameron, Daniel Connolly, Mariella Harris, Michael Irwin, Megan Kerr, Alasdair Lannigan, David McRobert and Eve Thompson attended this event. New personal best times and medals being were won by: Chloe Barclay who took the gold medal in the over 16, 100m backstroke in a new WDASC club record as well as a new West District record.

Eve Thompson took the silver in the over 16, 50m breaststroke in a new WDASC club record.

Michael Irwin won bronze in the 15, 50m breaststroke in a new WDASC club record.

Scottish Summer Meet July 24-26 Royal Commonwealth Pool Edinburgh CHLOE Barclay, Carl Barrett, Tony Connolly, Mariella Harris, Marcus Hills, Michael Irwin, Megan Kerr, Alasdair Lannigan, David McRobert and Eve Thompson attended this event representing WDASC. Some outstanding performances from these talented swimmers were just rewards for their hard work and the personal best times, medals and places were well deserved.

Medals and places were won by: Chloe Barclay took gold medals in both the 200m backstroke and 100m backstroke in the 17-18 age group yet again breaking the long course club record for the 16 and overs for both her events. A fantastic achievement for Chloe and great result for WDASC.

Carl Barrett swimming in the 14 year old age group took sixth place in the 50m freestyle, fifth place in the 50m backstroke and gold in the 50m butterfly. Carl also broke the club record for the 50m butterfly.

Michael Irwin, swimming in the 15 year old age group took bronze in the 50m freestyle, gold in 50m breaststroke, fifth place in the 100m breaststroke and silver in the 50m backstroke.

Megan Kerr took fifth place in the 17-18, 50m backstroke.

Alasdair Lannigan took fifth place in the 16-16, 50m butterfly in a meet which saw him coming home with new personal best times as well.

Eve Thompson took gold in the 17-18 100m breaststroke, gold in 17-18 50m breaststroke and 6th in the 200m breaststroke. Eve also broke the club records for all three events.

West District Sprints and Relay Championships The Citadel Sports Centre, Ayr, August 29-30 THIRTY-nine swimmers travelled down the coast to take part in this event. Younger swimmers travelled down to participate in the relay events.

Throughout the two days of competitions personal best times were consistently achieved by the swimmers and coaches were delighted with the performances. This was a meet gave the swimmers the chance to swim in a competitive atmosphere and there was a real sense of team spirit both in and around the pool.

WDASC parents are becoming increasingly renowned in the swimming circles as being the most enthusiastic supporters. It was no surprise that the medal haul at this meet was fantastic and a huge well done to all swimmers who participated.

Michael also broke the club record for the 100 individual medley for his age group.

Megan Kerr 17+, 6th 50m backstroke, 6th 50m breaststroke Daniel Murray 10-12, 4th 50 breaststroke Eve Thompson 17+, silver 50m breaststroke Greg Watson 17+, gold 50 backstroke, gold 100m individual medley The relay teams were also successful and medals and places were won by Daniel McCormick, Daniel Murray, Adam Craig and Craig MacDonald – 5th in 10-12 200m medley Megan Kerr, Eve Thompson, Daniel Connolly and Jimmy Smyth – silver in 17+ 200m medley Roland Smyth, Jamie Reid, Carl Barrett and Sam Bissett – bronze in 13-14 200m medley Sam Millar, Max McNulty, Sam Bissett and Carl Barrett – bronze in 13-14 200m freestyle Kirsten Barrett, Hannah Thomson, Niamh Reid and Mariella Harris – 4th in 13-14 200m medley Megan Kerr, Eve Thompson, Jimmy Smyth and Daniel Connolly – bronze in mixed 17+ 200m freestyle North Ayrshire Distance Meet September 5-6 Auchenharvie Leisure Centre, North Ayrshire CARL Barrett, Kirsten Barrett, Sam Bissett, Fraser Boyd, Jamie Boyd, Declan Boylan, Vincent Boylan, Charlie Bridges, Daniel Connolly, Kara MacDonald, Murrin Markwick, Jack McCue, Max McNulty, David McRobert, Joanne Mullen, Daniel Murray, Jamie Reid, Erin Sweeney, Hannah Thomson, Abby Tyson attended this meet over the course of the 2 days setting new personal bests and putting in some excellent performances. For most of these swimmers this was their first experience competing in the longer distances of 400m, 800m and 1500m.
