Central and West Dunbartonshire Taekwondo Club put some more seasoned clubs in the shade at their first National Scottish Championships as they won four medals.

The club only started in August and they managed the medal haul with only eight students competing at Wishaw Sports Centre.

First up for the club was Ellen Braid who won silver in the Tiny Tot category. Liam Denver and George Thompson competed well in the Pee Wee section.

Zoe Neil was next to claim a medal as she scooped bronze in the lightweight category, just edging out clubmate Sophie Armour who finished fourth.

Ryan Denver and Jonathon Prempeh also fought in the lightweight division. Jonathon took the bronze medal.

Caelan Neil fought in middleweight and won silver.

Steve Sharpe, 3rd Dan, and Rosie Kerr, 1st Dan – the club’s coaches – were delighted with the performances.

Rosie said: “The kids are so keen, it’s inspiring to see the way they want to train. That was their first competition and they were up against a lot of well-established clubs and fighters."

“They did fantastically well. It is incredible for us to have fighters up on the podium when we haven’t been running for a year yet”

The clubs run classes in Dumbarton, Buchlyvie and Drymen. The Dumbarton class takes place at Dumbarton Academy on Wednesday nights. For more information on the club, contact Rosie Kerr on 07850105258.
