LOCH Lomond Minis continued their recent good form as they made the trip to Cumbernauld for their festival of mini rugby.

Eleven players made the journey for the P1-3 team. The first match was eight-a-side against Bannockburn and saw an awesome display from Loch Lomond, with some great defence by Lewis Ward, Callum and Lewis.

Piercing runs by Michael, MiniMunn, Cameron and Roo helped Lomond on their way to a 6-0 win.

Next up was Uddingston, whose tight defence shut Loch down at every turn.

Eventually Lomond broke through. Fezzy offloaded to Sammy in support and Michael found a way to the line. Dylan and Alexander kept up a good Loch defence to keep Uddingston at bay. Cameron added to the scoring and Lomond ran out 3-0 winners.

Lastly Lomond were up against a mix of Cumbernauld and Waysiders, and some confusion at the beginning led to Cumbernauld gaining a lead. Loch fought back with some great runs and side steps which saw them get on to the scoreboard. There were tries from MiniMunn, Michael, Cameron and Lewis before a sprint the length of the park by Roo completed the scoring.

This thrilling match finished 9-8 to Cumbernauld.

The P4-5 team were looking to keep up their good form from last week’s tournament at Helensburgh.

Lomond were a bit shorter on numbers than usual. Every game saw Lomond pushing hard and fast in defence and running at pace with great support in attack.

Lomond finished the day unbeaten, winning 12-1, 14-1, 8-0, 8-3 and 10-1 against Kilmarnock, Bannockburn A, Bannockburn B, Uddingston and Cumbernauld respectively.

The P6/7 team travelled with only seven players today meaning they had to play every minute of the five games they faced. The team started off against Waysiders and they hit the ground running playing some great rugby to win 4-2.

Next up was Kilmarnock, and with confidence high they ran in six scores to win the game.

After a short break they faced a big and strong Uddingston team.

They started tentatively against the larger opposition, however quickly adapted their style of play to out manoeuvre the opposition and score three well-worked tries.

Despite their efforts the team narrowly lost 4-3. Next up was the host Cumbernauld and with more eye-catching rugby Loch were victorious 7-2.

Finally the team beat Bannockburn 5-4.

Training is on Sunday and Mondays at the club. Anyone interested in playing rugby, contact John 07802698841.
