Dumbartonshire golfers Brian Lindsay and Kevin McHugh have made it through to the National Grand Final of the American Golf Nine-Hole Championship after a closely fought qualifying competition at Fairmont St Andrews.

The pair, both members of Vale of Leven Golf Club, will now take their places at Ryder Cup venue The Belfry on September 9 and 10 to battle it out over the Brabazon Course for the title of the best 9 Hole golfers in the U.K.   Against the beautiful backdrop of the Fife course the competition was tight, but Lindsay and McHugh pulled away with some spectacular golf.

An impressive nine-hole score of 26 points sealed the title and the pair now go forward to the final at the iconic Midland venue alongside the winners of 19 other qualifying competitions across the U.K. and Ireland.

Daniel Gathercole head of marketing at American Golf said: “This is the second year for our Nine-Hole Championship and it’s proving to be an incredibly popular format.”

“It gives people the chance to play championship golf after work, getting all the excitement of top-level competition in half the time.”

Entry to all of the American Golf Championships, including the American Golf Nine-Hole, Junior, Ladies and Senior Championships, is completely free and is part of the nationwide retailer’s drive to promote the game of golf and get more people out playing golf more often.
