Dumbarton manager Stevie Aitken has said goalkeeper Mark Brown is unlikely to feature for the club with the arrival of Alan Martin.

The Sons signed Martin from Hamilton this summer, bringing the total number of 'keepers at the CID Stadium to three.

And with Brown being left out of the team photo last week before the Dundee United game, his future has been cast into doubt.

Jamie Ewings is set to remain to fight it out for the number one jersey, so the former Celtic goalkeeper's future looks to be away from The Rock.

When asked if Brown had a future with the club, Aitken said: “It's difficult when you bring another goalkeeper in, I spoke to Mark, we had a good conversation and told him we'd brought in another goalkeeper and Jamie Ewings is going to fight it out for number one so that leaves Mark obviously not involved in the situation.

“So we'll see what develops on it, it's unfortunate that we had to make that call.

“It's a position we've wanted to strengthen in and Alan showed that on Saturday, he made some terrific saves for us at key times and he's got a hold of the jersey and Jamie Ewings will try and get it back off him and we'll just see with Mark and what happens in the future.

The Sons' captain Darren Barr is also nearing his return, and could feature tomorrow against Morton.

However Fraser Wright and Garry Fleming have been ruled out for the game.

Aitken added: “Fraser Wright and Garry Fleming are definitely out 100%, Darren Barr is getting close.

He was training well again tonight, he's about 95% so we're just making sure everything is right, we'll see how he is today and Saturday but he is desperate to get back in and he's not that far away.”

And Aitken revealed on Saturday that one more defender was on his shopping list before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

However the boss stressed the club won't panic buy.

He said: “We've made some calls this week and I think next week will be a busy one for a lot of clubs and we'll see a bit of movement, we're still looking to bring another defender in.

“Obviously we're a bit short with Darren and Fraser out, and we've had to put Mark Docherty in there which wasn't ideal so we're still looking to get some business done if we can.

“But we have to make sure its right for Dumbarton, and we don't just sign the first player that we see.

“But I would expect one player in before the window shuts.”

And yesterday Dumbarton were drawn away to Stevie Aitken's previous club Stranraer, who he managed for three years.

The tie will take place on the weekend of Saturday, September 3, but the fixture is firmly in the back of Aitken's mind ahead of the Morton game tomorrow.

He added: “ It's always bound to happen at some stage in football, you're bound to get back to your old club.

“We had three good years down there, we moved the club forward a lot to go to challenging leagues and winning leagues.

“So it'll be good to go down there but I've not thought much about it to be honest with you because all my thoughts are on the Morton game at this time.”
