Morton boss Jim Duffy thought Dumbarton were the better side and should not have had a potential winner disallowed in the 83rd minute.

Dumbarton’s Robert Thomson was ruled to have fouled goalie Derek Gaston when they both went up and Gaston punched the ball out.

It went to Joe Thomson, who put it in the net.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw on Saturday, Duffy said: “For me there was no infringement, and we got away with the one where Derek has punched the ball. I certainly didn’t see a foul on the goalkeeper and if I was in [Stevie Aitken’s] shoes then I’d be fairly unhappy about it as well, so there’s no doubt that I think we got a break there.”

Overall, Duffy was unhappy with his team, barring a few individuals.

He said: “I think we were fortunate, we didn’t play well at all. I said to them the last couple of weeks we probably deserved more and today I don’t think we deserved it.

“We didn’t play well at all, the back four I thought were OK, they did their jobs pretty well for most of the game but in terms of any link-up play and going forward, young Tiff (Scott Tiffoney) aside, who I thought gave us a real spark and was terrific, who is only 17 years of age, so I was delighted with Tiff but, to be honest, the creative side of our game was non-existent today.”

And despite his team having two chances to score in the dying minutes to snatch all three points, Duffy thought his side’s fighting spirit was the only positive to draw from the game.

He added: “We probably could and should have nicked it as we had two great chances in the final two minutes but I think it would be a travesty as far as Dumbarton are concerned. The only thing we can take from it really is a point, having a desire to come back because we didn’t play anywhere near what we can play.

“We created some chances, three or four really good chances in the game, but there really wasn’t too much to be happy about other than the point.”
