Falkirk manager Peter Houston was complementary of Dumbarton after his side won 1-0 against the Sons on Saturday.

A late goal from substitute Lee Miller sealed the three points for the Bairns, their first win of the league campaign.

And Houston said his side were under pressure to perform against Dumbarton, but said his players’ commitment shone in the end.

He said: “Stevie [Aitken]’s got them well organised, he’s got an honest bunch of guys who work really hard, they went to Morton last week and drew and they beat Dundee United at home.

“We have no God given right to guarantee ourselves three points although a lot of people within the stadium would think so, you’ve got to work hard for everything you get and Dumbarton are an organised side and I’m happy to take the three points.

“I can’t fault the players for their commitment.

“They know the pressure was on them to win today, we have to win our home matches. Last year it was a fortress here in many ways, I think Hibs beat us with a penalty and Livingston so that starts again.

“And especially after the fact that we haven’t won yet starts to build up a bit of pressure on the supporters.”

He added: “I think we deserved to win, I think the first 10 minutes Dumbarton were the best team.

“We were slack, Danny Rogers drops a ball which they should have scored from probably, but then I thought we controlled the game.

“Their goalkeeper had a couple of great saves in the first half, Danny Rogers has to make a good save for us from a counter-attack when it’s still 0-0 but I don’t think anybody could say that we didn’t deserve to win today because I thought we put enough into the game to win that match.

“Today wasn’t a complete performance from us.

“I thought our attitude and commitment and some of our passing moves were good but there’s things we need to clean up.”
