LOCH Lomond minis made the journey to Bishopbriggs to play Allan Glens on Sunday, September 11.

The P1-3 team played a warm-up match against Allan Glens’ A team. The game saw the return of Fez and Roo to the team.

The Allan Glens team scored a few tries, finding gaps in the sometimes sparse Loch Lomond defence. However, Loch Lomond answered this with some great play of their own, scoring enough tries to take an away victory.

Next up was the second team, which was more of a development game as the opposition was fairly new to the sport and resulted in a Loch Lomond win.

Lastly was a Loch Lomond vs Allan Glens (survivors) match.

This allowed Allan Glens to capitalise on the best of both teams rotating substitutes in and out. Allan Glens tried to apply the pressure, however, Loch turned the tables really pushing up the defensive line and forcing the turnover. After that the tries kept rolling in Loch’s way. A great run out for Loch Lomond, three from three with some promising play.

Lomond’s P4-5 team played two games and had a mixed training session with their Alan Glens counterparts. It was a productive day with some great tackling, defensive lines and their usual running rugby all on display. In the first game Lomond took the lead only to have Alan Glens pull level.

This pattern continued throughout the game until Glens pulled one try ahead with a minute left on the clock. Lomond didn’t give up and in the last play of the game crossed the line to draw 5-5.

The second game followed a very different pattern and Glens opened up a three-try lead. Lomond never gave up and following a sustained period of possession they scored four unanswered tries to win the game 6-5.

A mixed P6/7 team played three evenly-contested games against the home side, coming out on top in all three.

The first game was a scrappy affair with both teams making simple handling errors and not competing at the breakdowns.

The second game saw an improvement in the Lomond play, with the players competing at the breakdown, tackling hard in defence and playing attacking rugby, scoring four well-worked tries.

Notwithstanding this, the hosts continued to pressure the Lomond players forcing them backwards and making them defend.

The team continued the good play into the final game, however, the coaches wanted the players to concentrate on their positional side of the game and not over-committing at the breakdowns.

The players rose to the challenge playing some great passing and running rugby resulting in three scores while remaining strong in defence.

All players played well today and should be very proud of their efforts.

The club is seeking new players. All players from P1-S4 welcome to come along and try rugby. Contact John for details 07802 698841 or search for Loch Lomond Minis and Juniors on Facebook.
