Sons ratings

Alan Martin — 7

Nothing he could do about second or third goals, saved several one-on-ones as well to keep it at three and to give Dumbarton a chance.

Craig Pettigrew — 5

Struggled to keep the defensive shape and was caught out of position several times. He was hooked off at half time.

Daniel Harvie — 5

Missed a glorious chance to level when the score was at 1-0.

Gregor Buchanan — 5

Slipped early on in the first half and was caused a lot of trouble by the smaller attacking force of Raith, and a late red.

Darren Barr — 6

Forced to come out a lot more from defence as his midfield weren’t dealing with the problems, and opened up spaces. Won majority of his headers played up to him in attack

Grant Gallagher — 5

I am normally positive about his and Joe’s performances, but this week they allowed the Raith midfielders too much time on the ball. Raith were able to provide flick-ons and through balls with too much comfort and space.

Joe Thomson — 5

Set-pieces were good, but similar to Gallagher, there was not much else apart from that.

Garry Fleming — 6

Provided the link between attack and midfield, put himself about a lot.

David Smith — 8

One of the few players from Dumbarton who could hold their heads high in the first half. Looked to receive the ball and run with it whenever possible.

Andy Stirling — 5

Struggled to get into the game, looked to run at defenders when he could but often muscled off the ball. Subbed off at the break.

Robert Thomson — 5

Wasn’t able to win many balls up front, just does not seem like that sort of player despite his height.

Substitutes

Sam Stanton — 7

Good dribbling and link up for Dumbarton’s goal. Had the biggest impact of the three subs and looked a real threat after coming on.

Josh Todd — 7

Had a positive impact and supplied the cross for Dumbarton’s second goal.

Ryan Stevenson — 7

Super Sons

Great strike for the first goal, another positive impact from the bench.

David Smith — 15 points: One of the few players to give a good account of themselves. Wanted the ball and looked dangerous when he had it.

Sam Stanton — 10 points: Made a big impact coming on and looked to run at players, and good interplay with Stevenson for the first goal.

Ryan Stevenson — 5 points: Scored the first and bundled the ball across to Thomson for the second, positive impact coming off the bench.
