Sons ratings

Alan Martin — 6

At fault for the first goal and not as confident coming to claim the ball as he has been at the start of the season.

David Smith — 7

Right back is not his natural position but was good going forward but as expected can look frail in defensive duties, and caught out of position.

Daniel Harvie — 7

Strong going forward and provided the cross for Garry Fleming’s goal. Long throws continue to be a threat for the Sons going forward.

Gregor Buchanan — 7

Not much he could do for either goal, and was solid throughout and won a majority of his headers.

Darren Barr — 7

Beaten for pace for the second goal, other than that looked solid in the air and dealt with opportunities thrown at him.

Mark Docherty — 8

Did well to break play up and stayed assured in his defensive midfield role.

Joe Thomson — 8

Scored his first goal for Dumbarton and could have had two more. Hopefully his goal spurs him on and he can find the net a few more times this season.

Sam Stanton — 7

Solid in the middle of the park, and was allowed to go forward in attack with Docherty back in defensive midfield.

Josh Todd — 7

Looked good with the ball at his feet and covered a lot of ground across the pitch both in attack and defence.

Robert Thomson — 7

A very different role on the left wing, but a clear tactic to hit every goal kick towards Thomson proved fruitful throughout the game, and unselfishly passed for the first goal.

Garry Fleming — 7

Was running low on energy towards the end after a spell on the sidelines but came up with the goods to get his first league goal of the season. He was much more threatening as the lone striker.

Substitutes

Andy Stirling — 6

Looked good as an impact sub as Dumbarton looked to change their shape to push for a winner. Good with the ball at his feet, and proved a handful when on, but Stirling’s final pass more often than not doesn’t find a Dumbarton shirt.

Ryan Stevenson — 5

Came on late and had little chance to influence the tie.

The Reporter’s Super Sons competition is hotting up.

Find the ratings and standings each week in The Reporter.

Joe Thomson — 15 points: Bagged his first professional goal and has looked a threat going forward as he continues to get game time.

Mark Docherty — 10 points: Looked assured in the defensive midfield role that he used to play in while at Alloa, his third position he’s been used in since the start of the season.

Robert Thomson — 5 points: Won a lot of the ball from goal kicks and supplied his namesake Joe for Dumbarton’s opener, a different role but coped well with the change.
