Dumbarton have been fined £3,000 by the SPFL for fielding an ineligible player in their 1-0 loss to Hibernian in January.
The Reporter understands Stuart Carswell's registration was not cleared in time for the game, with the midfielder playing for 86 minutes before being substituted.
The 23-year-old joined the Sons from Icelandic side Keflavík in January after they allowed the former St Mirren player to leave his contract early to join up with Stevie Aitken's side.
It is also understood that no further action will be taken.
Dumbarton FC have been asked for comment.
