Vale of Leven scored a last minute winner in their final pre-season game, beating local rivals Dumbarton Academy 2-1 at Millburn Park on Saturday.

Vale took the lead on five minutes, Allan MacPherson capitalising on an Accies defensive error when in possession of a free-kick.

The competitive nature of the match was evident, with Accies central defender picking up a booking on 15 minutes following some off the ball shoving.

On the half hour, a well worked corner arrived at Vale midfielder Lee McGeachey’s head, but the ball flashing over the bar.

Accies then starting gaining a foothold into the match.

Former Vale player Jack Buchanan saw a shot saved comfortably by Vale keeper Robert Tiropoulos.

Ian Davie then produced a good cross into the Vale box, with no Accies takers.

Accies then began to up their own game and began to put pressure on the hosts in the second half.

Early opportunities saw Alan Sweeney’s shot saved and Andrew Burton shoot over.

Vales Ryan Kerr then missed a good opportunity, and Accies Andrew Burton then hit the bar from six yards - slightly miss-hitting his effort in the process.

A good move between Ryan Banks, Alan Nicholson and Alan Sweeney saw the latter shoot fiercely over.

Vale’s Lee McGeachey then saw Accies keeper save well.

On the hour, Accies debutant Connor O’Donoghue placed a good pass to Andrew Burton. The forward then set up Ryan Banks whose shot was saved.

Accies second half efforts were deserving of an equaliser, it duly arrived on 70 minutes. An Alan Sweeney cross left Buchanan with the simplest of tasks to tap home.

Vale created a couple of chances during the last 10 minutes.

David Goodwin deflected a goalbound effort wide preventing a certain goal.

Vale’s winner arrived following a deflection in Accies box, Andrew Clark reacting quickest to place the ball home from six yards.
