Kirktonhill Gents capped their promotion season off by winning the Division 5 Playoff Trophy.

Playing away at Broomhill, the team showed the form which took them to the top of their league with a 6-3 win.

It proved to be a shaky start for the squad with Douglas Mackechnie and Andrew McCollum, who went down 3-6, 2-6, 2-6.

Andy Bone and Alan Barbour got them back into the game though with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 win.

The big success of the season has been the progress made by brothers Michael and David Corcoran who have established themselves as regulars in the team.

They took all three of their sets although they had to dig deep to secure the third set 7-6.

The Ladies seniors have got off to a steady start in their Division 4 matches and came away from Hillhead with a 3-3 draw. Karen Haggarty and Trish Cameron continued with a 6-2, 6-3,6-1 win.

However it proved too much of a challenge for Anna Currie and Fiona MacDonald on court two and despite rallying in the second set, they lost 1-6, 3-6, 1-6.

After a successful race night at the start of the month, the next big event for the club is a family celebration night at the Harp Social Club on September 30.

There will be a magic show, entertainment and music as well as end-of-season awards to recognise achievement and participation.
