Witham Town manager Mark Ashford says his son Sam will have gained a great deal from his experience of representing England last weekend.

The Witham midfielder travelled across the Atlantic Ocean to play two games in the Falkland Islands as part of an English FA representative side managed by England C team boss Paul Fairclough.

Sam featured in both games for the national side and his father and Witham Town boss said he would benefit from the experience of pulling on the Three Lions' shirt.

Mark said: "They played a Falkland Islands national team in the Saturday that they won 3-1 and Sam played 90 minutes of.

"I was so excited for him as it was in the full England kit in front of a big crowd and it was a very positive experience for him.

"We listened to the game on Falklands Radio, which was quite surreal from 8,000 miles away, but you could hear that it was a great atmosphere with a lot of supporters there.

"The team also had an official function at Government House when they were there representing England and it was a fantastic experience for Sam.

"Then on the Sunday, they played an army team when Sam played the second half.

"England were trailing at half-time and they came back to win 3-2.

"He was over the moon with the whole experience and it's been so good for him."
