Brian Brown insists he couldn’t have asked for much more from his Vale of Leven side despite watching them fall to a 4-3 loss at home to Lanark United at the weekend.

Vale led the league leaders twice on Saturday at the Millburn before an unfortunate mistake with five minutes left on the clock handed the Yowes all three points.

But despite the result, Brown admits he was delighted with his side’s display.

He said: “It was a disappointing result but I have no complaints with the way we played. It might sound a bit crazy after getting beat but I was more than happy with the way we went about it on Saturday. The attitude we showed from the start was spot on - it was just a couple of individual errors that cost us in the end.

“We had the game under control for the majority of it before we let it slip at the end. We’re disappointed with that but I can’t fault any of my players.”

Next up for Vale is a trip to take on Saltcoats with Brown demanding his side get back to winning ways immediately.

He added: “Saltcoats will be another hard one. It will be the start of three away games on the bounce for us so it’s important to start improving our away form and picking up points. We need to get ourselves going again and back to winning ways if we want to get promotion from this league.”
