Dumbarton boss Jim Duffy continued in his mission to bolster his squad last week with goalkeeper Conor Brennan and striker Isaac Layne the latest players to sign up at the C&G Systems Stadium.

Arriving from Brechin City midway through last season, Northern Irishman Brennan played two games for the Sons, both draws against Raith Rovers and Arbroath, with Duffy keen to hand the 25-year-old an extension to stay at the Rock.

Duffy said: “Conor showed when given a chance last season that he is a useful goalkeeper and we are pleased to retain him.

“The two games he played in last season were positive exercises, both of which we were close to winning against teams who competed at the top.

“We are glad he has decided to stay with us.”
Layne, meanwhile, joined Dumbarton having previously played for Stranraer back in 2018.

The English striker, 24, who previously turned out for Billericay Town, Alloa Athletic, Stirling Albion and Brechin City, became the gaffer’s ninth summer signing.

Layne and Brennan join Kyle Hutton, who extended his stay with the club last week, Stefan McCluskey, Morgyn Neill, Jordan Pettigrew, Conor Scullion and Ryan Tierney as Duffy’s squad for the 2019/20 campaign begins to take shape with Sonstrust Player of the Year Stuart Carswell expected to sign up this week.
