The 20-year-old’s second loan spell with Ian Murray’s side came to an end after the 5-1 defeat to Hearts on Saturday, with Kane grabbing a goal on his farewell appearance.

Having arrived at the club in January 2014 for the second half of last season and returning for a second stint in August, Kane has turned in some impressive performances for Sons throughout his two spells.

His goal record at the club reads as an impressive 15 from just 21 starts, form which may have convinced St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright to block any other loan deals for the player.

If that situation changes Kane admits Dumbarton would be high on his list of preferred destinations for future loan spells.

He told SportScene: “Of course I would consider coming back, I love the club and I really enjoyed my time there so if I did have to go back out on loan Dumbarton would be a club I would be happy to go to.

“My time at the club has been great I get on with everyone, there are good people at the club so I’ve really enjoyed it.

“I’d like to say thanks to the fans and everyone at Dumbarton for what they have done for me and I wish them good luck in the future.” As Kane returns to the Perth side he is in no doubt that he is doing so as a better player having experienced regular football at Dumbarton. He now hopes to push for a place in the first team of the Premiership side.

He said: “I’ve definitely improved. It is a big step up from under-20s, I’ve been playing with and against better players so I think I’ve learned a lot in the last year.

“I’d certainly hope for a chance but it is really down to the St Johnstone manager.

“He’s just told me to keep my head down and to keep doing what I’m doing.” The 20-year-old’s second loan spell with Ian Murray’s side came to an end after the 5-1 defeat to Hearts on Saturday, with Kane grabbing a goal on his farewell appearance.
