DUMBARTON Academy are through to the William Turner Cup final after a penalty shoot-out victory over Doune on Tuesday.

The tie finished 1-1 before Accies prevailed 7-6 on penalty kicks.

The sides travelled to the neutral venue of Giffnock North for the tie.

Accies opened the scoring on 48 seconds. A quick one-two in midfield saw Andrew MacDonald released down the left side of the pitch. The forward cut his cross along the Doune six-yard line and the onrushing Graeme Ramage stroked the ball home.

Incredibly, Doune equalised on three minutes. A Sean Deaver corner into Accies box saw Niall McClure rise unchallenged to head home.

On 20 minutes, a cross from Graeme Ramage was mishandled by Doune keeper Callum Davidson, however the keeper recovered well to avert the danger caused.

On the half hour mark, Doune had an opportunity when Chris Oglivie turned his marker and passed to David Innes — however the resultant shot was tame and saved comfortably by Accies keeper Andrew McGillvray.

This was followed by Accies'’ Scott Williamson doing well to send in a cross into the heart of the Doune box — but the ball was scrambled clear.

Accies clearly hadn'’t learned their lesson from the goal, another corner was swung in and this time Ryan Duncanson headed towards goal but the ball struck the bar and went to safety.

As the match headed towards half-time, Accies had a free kick in front of goal. Graeme Ramage narrowly missing the target with the keeper beaten.

On the hour a superb David Goodwin block prevented an opportunity for Doune.

Accies responded through a Paul McGlinchey shot which was saved.

Alan Filshie then had an opportunity saved.

Accies had taken control of proceedings and created further opportunities through MacDonald and Filshie.

On 80 minutes Accies keeper McGillvray did well to block a shot with his feet.

With time running out Alan Filshie had a chance to win the game with a header following a deep cross — however the header went wide.
