LONG time league leaders Glasgow Perthshire clinched promotion with this two goal victory over Vale at Millburn on Saturday.

The score was a bit harsh on Vale who more than matched their opponents for most of the game but were finally beaten by a controversial spot kick 10 minutes from time that clinched victory just as Vale looked like grabbing an equaliser.

Vale were without Grindlay, McNaught and McPherson for this match as they looked for revenge after their earlier defeat at Keppoch Park.

The home side almost took the lead after just three minutes when Brown's corner saw Wardle's netbound header clawed back by veteran keeper Thomson as Vale claimed a goal.

Shire took the lead after 11 minutes following a mix up in the Vale defence and John Paul Craig fired home from the edge of the area.

Mark Bowie made a great run into the area but from 12 yards blasted an effort wide of target as Vale searched for an equaliser.

Next up Alan Filshie saw a left foot effort saved by Thomson. Vale's Smith twice made good saves at the feet of an opponent to keep Vale in the match.

Into the second period and three times Craig Cown came close before Shire secured all three points courtesy of a debatable penalty kick that was duly thumped home by David Kirkwood.

This week Vale have no fixture.

Vale: Smith, R McKenzie, Wardle, Wilson, Daremas (Lacy 87), Bonner, Brown, Filshie, Martin (G McKenzie 73), Bowie, Cowan (Hanley 77). Vale of Leven............................................................. 4 Cambuslang Rangers............................................... 1 VALE recorded their best result of the season with a convincing win over Cambuslang at Millburn last Wednesday.

The three points received stake the Millburn men onto the 30 point mark and that should be enough to see them avoid relegation as they moved up to fourth spot.

With keeper Charles Smith delayed in traffic, Vale made a late change with Martin Grindlay returning in goal, otherwise it was the same side that won last time out at Neilston.

It was the visitors who started well and took the game to Vale as they too sought points to steer clear of the relegation zone.

Vale weathered the early pressure and stunned Rangers when they took the lead after 17 minutes when David McNaught ran onto Craig Cowan's through ball to blast the ball high into the net.

And 10 minutes later and Vale doubled their lead when Bowie held the ball up before rolling a pass to Alan Filshie and he drove the ball low into the far corner of the net.

Vale dominated the rest of the half but were unable to capitalize on their good play.

Three minutes into the second half Cambuslang were right back in the game when defender Andy McFarlane advanced forward and got on the end of a cross field pass to rifle the ball low into the net.

The home side restored their two goal advantage after 63 minutes when Allan McPherson made a great run down the right and his low cross was tucked into the net by McNaught.

Vale secured the victory after 78 minutes when top scorer Mark Bowie burst into the box and was sent sprawling by the trailing leg of a defender.

Bowie dusted himself down and drove the spot kick into the back of the net for a well deserved victory.
