Sons promoted after Super Sunday
DUMBARTON fans were in dreamland yesterday (Sunday) after watching the Sons secure promotion to the First Division.
An amazing travelling support of more than 700 watched on in delight as their heroes grabbed a crushing 4-1 win over Airdrie United, which gave the Sons a 6-2 aggregate victory.
And as the realisation of what Alan Adamson's side had achieved dawned on the loyal fans an impromptu conga broke out in the stand before the final whistle.
It was a real carnival atmosphere throughout, and when the match was finally brought to a close the pitch was swamped with the jubilant supporters.
Gilbert Lawrie, Dumbarton FC chief executive, said: "I would say that at the start of the season getting to the First Division was a hope rather than necessarily an aim.
"Our aim was to try to get to the play-offs, but to actually get through the play-offs after a hard tie against Arbroath and Airdrie, we are absolutely delighted.
"There is a lot of work goes in behind the scenes to keep us commercially viable and sustainable and to do that without debt and with a bunch of boys that we have got today is absolutely brilliant.
"We had a big party back at the Rock on Saturday night obviously but after that we will obviously start thinking about next season.
"Alan's backroom team has been great, as has Alan.
"He took on the job when Jim Chapman moved upstairs and he's done a great job.
"I'm delighted for him."
