JUBILANT: Adamson with his squad

SONS gaffer Alan Adamson is determined to prove any doubters wrong and keep Dumbarton in the First Division next season.

The manager admitted that many pundits will already be tipping his side for the drop, despite securing promotion in style with a 6-2 aggregate win over Airdrie United on Sunday.

And Adamson believes that with a few key additions to the squad, he has a strong enough group of players to be a real force next year.

He said: "It was a brand new team and it took a wee while for them to gel.

"You were always thinking will it happen, or will it not, but we have proved the last five weeks that we have become a really good outfit. It will be great to be in the First Division and it will certainly be a test for me. Only time will tell how we do, and I know that a lot of people will be saying that we will come straight back down again but in the summer we will try to get a couple more players in and go with the spine of the team we have got, then you just never know.

"It's an ambitious club and they were never happy to stay in the Third Division. As soon as we got up we consolidated in the Second Division and we may have made it to the First a little earlier than expected, but we are here so we will just enjoy it."
