Former Scotland international Derek Riordan played as a trialist for Dumbarton on Tuesday night in a closed door friendly against Brechin City. The striker replaced Mark Gilhaney at half time in the match at Stirling University as the Sons fought their way to a 1-1 draw.
However, after the match, manager Ian Murray confirmed that the former Hibs and Celtic man is only training with the Sons to improve his fitness after leaving Bristol Rovers last season, Murray said: "We were just giving Deeks fitness, he won't be playing for us on Thursday."
Although Riordan was the main talking point, it was another trialist, Dundee United defender, Ross Smith, who put the Sons ahead in the first half before Brechin equalised with a second half penalty.
Dumbarton are back in action on Thursday night with another closed door match, against Queens Park, however, Murray has said that none of Tuesday night's trialists (Smith, Nick Phinn, Jordan Kirkpatrick and Riordan) will feature.
