Dumbarton supporters, shop owners and barmaids have been amongst those to show their support for the team, and in particular manager Ian Murray, ahead of the club’s biggest Scottish Cup match since the 1970s.

Eighteen months ago Dumbarton had collected just two points from their first 10 games of the season and were staring relegation in the face.

Ian Murray was then appointed boss and Sons now sit fifth in the league, two points off the promotion play offs and preparing to play a historic Scottish Cup tie.

All in all it has been an incredible start to life as a manager for Murray and as a tribute to the miracles he has performed since taking charge the Dumbarton and Vale of Leven Reporter will be handing out 150 Ian Murray masks to Sons fans on Saturday ahead of the club’s first Scottish Cup quarter final since 1979.

After 35 years without reaching the Scottish Cup last eight, Dumbarton head to Aberdeen to take on the tournament favourites, the town has been sporting the Murracle Masks and getting behind the team in the build up to the match and you can too with our editor Emma Quigley and sports reporter Andrew Clark going to be on hand to dish out the masks on Saturday.

And ahead of the game, the Ian Murray in the dugout is hoping the Murrays in the stand can help roar the team on to victory, the boss said: “Obviously the fans support is appreciated and welcomed, especially for such a tough game.

“Hopefully the players can repay them with a good performance for the long journey home” The Sons go into the match in fine form this year with last Saturday’s defeat at Queen of the South the team’s first loss of 2014 and Murray is hoping that the defeat doesn’t play on the players’ minds on Saturday, the Sons boss continued: “It is a fantastic opportunity for the players to first and foremost show how good a team they are and how good the players are individually and secondly to enjoy the build up because it is not often a part time team like ourselves gets this far in the cup.

“We want to enjoy the build up to the game and enjoy the week, we don’t want one 45 minutes out of the last 10 games to affect the rest of our season, the fact of the matter is we are two points off the play offs, we are sitting mid table and we’re going up for a quarter final game against Aberdeen.

“If we play like we did in the first 45 minutes against Queen of the South then Aberdeen will tear us apart because they are a good side but play like we did in the second 45 minutes and we will give Aberdeen a very good game.”
