Turner thought he had given Dumbarton the lead in the first half but as the Sons players and fans started celebrating referee Brian Colvin ruled the goal out for an alleged push which Turner believed was a harsh decision, he said: “To be honest I thought I had got away with it and he had given the goal because I thought he had pointed back to the centre circle.

“It was 50/50 really, I’ve seen people get away with it — I sort of leaned into his back and pushed off him and he has made the most of it and thrown himself forward.” Turner felt his goal would have been the least Dumbarton deserved after they dominated the league leaders in the first half, he continued: “We thought we were very good in the first half and we were unlucky not to get a goal.

“We had a few good chances but you have got to take your chances whenever you have them like that because if you don’t you see what can happen — they can get a goal late on and kill us.” After missing a number of games through injury, Turner returned to the Dumbarton starting 11 in an unfamiliar left back role against Cowdenbeath before being reinstated to the Sons midfield against Dundee and then playing both in midfield and at left back against Falkirk but he insisted he is happy to play wherever he is asked to if it means getting into the Sons team, he added: “The gaffer asked me to fill in at left back and that wasn’t a problem — I would play anywhere to get a game but it was good to get back in the middle against Dundee on Saturday.” After the disappointment of the recent defeats against Dundee and Falkirk, the Sons now sit six points behind Queen of the South in the chase for fourth place but with a game in hand Turner and his team mates still have the play offs in their sights, he added: “We need to dust ourselves down and go again to chase fourth place.

“We have a lot of games coming up in the next five or six weeks so we just need to prepare properly for the games and keep ourselves right after games and hopefully we can get the results that we are looking for.

“As a team and as players we are looking at the top half of the league. We have shown over the course of the season that we are a good enough side to push for that top four place.”
