After pushing for promotion last season, Morton have endured a torrid campaign this time around and a Dumbarton victory tonight would officially relegate Kenny Shiels’ men into League One.
Although Morton only sit on a paltry 16 points, three of those points came when the teams last met a Cappielow when Dumbarton’s Mark McLaughlin, wearing the blue and white hoops of the hosts scored Morton’s second in a 2-0 win.
However, the other two matches between the sides this season have brought more joy for the Sons with a Bryan Prunty penalty and a Chris Kane strike sealing the points in the most recent tie while Mitch Megginson, Colin Nish and Steven McDougall all netted in August as Dumbarton ran out 3-1 winners.
Saturday will be the fifth time Dumbarton and Alloa have clashed this season with the Sons undefeated against the Wasps thus far, with three Dumbarton wins and a draw so far between the sides.
Although Dumbarton enjoyed a 5-1 victory at Recreation Park in January, the match was a lot tighter when the sides last clashed at the Rock with Prunty netting a late equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw.
