Dumbarton thumped Alloa 4-1 at the weekend making up for the shock 3-0 defeat at bottom of the table Morton midweek showing when the Sons get it right, they really get it right.

Ian Murray’s side moved to within three points of the Championship’s play-off places with a comfortable win, which showed the Sons at their prolific best.

Mark Gilhaney started the rout midway through the first half and Garry Fleming, Scott Agnew and Chris Kane completed an excellent afternoon with goals after the interval.

A trip to Raith Rovers at the weekend could see the Sons make further inroads to Queen of the South, who are standing in the way of Dumbarton’s quest for fourth place; now 8/1 with BetVictor.

Raith are the 7/5 favourites with home advantage, Dumbarton 9/5 and the draw 9/4, however, the Sons look good value for at least a point with the home side fortunate to beat Alloa at the weekend, ending a run of three games without a win.

Hamilton and Dundee still can’t be separated at the top of the table and both remain level on points after the two sides’ 1-1 draw at New Douglas Park at the weekend.

Martin Boyle opened the scoring, sending the Dees 1-0 up at the break and the Accies needed a late header from Mikael Antoine-Curier to rescue a point and keep their title aspirations intact with just four games left of the season.

BetVictor make Dundee the marginal 10/11 favourites, Hamilton 11/10 and don’t write off Falkirk just yet. The Bairns remain four points adrift but beat Cowdenbeath 5-0 at the Falkirk Stadium on Saturday and have now won three games on the spin after wins over Dumbarton and Dundee respectively.

The top three all look to have winnable games at the weekend with Falkirk travelling to Queen of the South, Hamilton going to Livi and Dundee hosting Cowdenbeath.

Barring the Blue Brazil’s draws with Hamilton last week and Alloa earlier in the month, Cowdenbeath have lost their five games since the start of March, including the Sons thumping them 5-1 at the Bet Butler Stadium.

Dundee are 9/20 favourite for the clash and will be a staple in the majority of accumulators and multiples over the weekend — the very definition of a home banker.

Tricky away ties for both Hamilton and Falkirk but as mentioned, both sides are in good form and Hamilton are 13/10 favourites, Livingston 2/1, the draw 9/4. Queen of the South are now 1/20 for a top four finish but should be out-classed by an improvising Falkirk side, The treble of Dundee, Hamilton and Falkirk pays just over 8/1 with BetVictor and looks the bet of the week. Pineau De Re was a game winner of the first ever £1million Grand National with the well backed pair of Balthazar King (14/1) and Double Seven (10/1 joint favourite) chasing home the winner in second and third respectively, Alvarado (33/1) in fourth.

BetVictor paid SIX PLACES to each way punters with Paul Nicholls’ Rocky Creek (16/1) snatching fifth from Chance Du Roy (33/1) — both collecting for each way customers, who would have been out of pocket had they bet elsewhere.

The spotlight now turns to Ayr for the Scottish National on Saturday and local trainer Lucinda Russell’s Green Flag has been backed for success. The seven-year-old is still a novice but was an eye-catching fourth in the Festival Handicap at the Cheltenham Festival, staying on to make impressive headway in the closing stages, He is the current 10/1 joint-favourite with BetVictor after being nibbled over the weekend to hopefully give a local winner for Lucinda Russell and Peter Buchanan, who also have Nuts N Bolts (25/1) and Lie Forrit (16/1) in the race too.
