Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Raith Rovers at Starks Park was a great result and keeps us with that hope of reaching the promotion play-offs.

After Raith’s fantastic Ramsdens Cup win all the talk in press leading up to the game was about Raith catching Queen of The South and this simply acted as motivation for the squad. Many people probably still don’t take us as a serious threat to get there due to our run in but that isn’t fazing the players at all. The pressure is all on Queens as they are still in pole position.

I hope the supporters turn out in their numbers for next week and really get behind the boys in what could be a pivotal game in the race for fourth place. Our home form has improved dramatically this season having only lost five matches in comparison to 11 last year.

One of the reasons for this may have been the manager’s decision at the start of the season to reduce the pitch size in the hope that the full-time teams fitness wouldn’t become a factor and that it would be more suited to our compact and direct style of play.

The introduction of the play-offs has been a great addition to the Championship this season. If they hadn’t been introduced then half of the league would have meaningless games for the last three games.

The only issue I have with the play-offs is how it is so weighted in the SPL side’s favour. The teams who finish third and fourth could potentially have to play six matches whereas the SPL side would only play two.

At the start of this season if you had offered any supporter of Dumbarton FC a run to the Scottish cup quarter final and to still be in the hunt for a promotion play-off spot with three games to go, they may have thought you were having a laugh.

That’s where we are though and we have to give everything in the last three games to make this a season that Dumbarton will remember for years to come.
