Murray joined the club on an 18 month deal in November 2012 and guided the team to safety from almost certain relegation in his first campaign, before narrowly missing out on the promotion play-offs this season.

Murray also took the club on their best Scottish Cup run in 35 years but with his contract due to expire on May 20, Sons fans were growing concerned that their 33-year-old boss may be tempted to move on rather than sign a new deal at the Rock.

However, Murray told the Reporter: “I really enjoy working at the club, we are still talking about next season and hopefully we will get something sorted this week.” With only two Sons players signed up for next season captain Andy Graham believes Murray putting pen to paper would be the catalyst for a number of other players to sign new deals.

The 30-year-old defender joined the club under Alan Adamson in the summer of 2012 and he said: “Hopefully the gaffer signs and then everyone else can follow.

“If he stays then we will be able to start getting everything sorted but we have just got to hold on just now and see what happens.

“I am really happy at the club and want to stay - we were all in at the stadium on Thursday and we all just want things sorted as soon as possible.” See this week’s Dumbarton and Vale of Leven Reporter for more on the future of Ian Murray and his Sons squad and a look back at all the highlights from last season.
