Kane joined Sons on loan from St Johnstone in January and went on to net 10 crucial goals as the club narrowly missed out on promotion.

However, with Nigel Hasselbaink and Chris Iwelumo leaving the Perth side, it is believed manager Tommy Wright is willing to give Kane a chance in his first team so a return to the Rock looks unlikely for the youngster.

Former Airdrie, Brechin and Albion Rovers striker and former St Mirren, East Fife and Morton striker Jack Smith are currently on trial at the Rock and Murray said: “We will hopefully add another three players at the most or hopefully two at the minimum.

“We need a little bit of firepower, we have plenty of guys that will score goals but we need to help Colin Nish, Bryan Prunty and Garry Fleming by bringing in one or two strikers in the next few weeks.

“But at the moment I am more than happy to go with these three until the right striker comes along, but in terms of everywhere else we are nearly done.”
