Dumbarton have already signed first team goalkeepers Ewings and Stephen Grindlay, while youngster Josh Lumsden is also on the books as Sons under-20s shot stopper.

However, the Sons failed to name a number one when this season’s squad numbers were released, sparking rumours that another keeper may be on his way to the Rock and Aberdeen youngster, Danny Rogers, is the favourite to claim that number one shirt.

Speaking after this afternoon’s 1-1 draw with Partick Thistle Murray said people should not read too much into the squad number situation but admitted he may need to add another goalkeeper to his squad.

When asked about the omission of a number one from the Dumbarton squad the Sons boss said: "There were people in the squad last year that were in the first 11 squad numbers but who played hardly any football so I don’t read too much into the numbers. “For example look at Scotty Linton - last season he wasn’t number three but he played left back nearly every week.

“But Jazza (Ewings) has got a wee bit of an Achilles problem so we may have to add a goalkeeper regardless but we will see how long Jazz is going to be out for.” Irishman Rogers impressed between the sticks on trial in a closed door friendly against Stenhousemuir last Saturday and again on Tuesday night against Hamilton.

He is currently in Holland with the Aberdeen squad ahead of their Europa League qualifier with Groningen but Murray added: “Danny was in last Saturday and last Tuesday and is now away in Holland this week with Aberdeen so maybe we will do something with him next week.

“If we could get Danny it would be a loan deal but we have to wait and see when he gets back from Holland because who knows what could happen with Aberdeen’s goalkeepers.

“But I think Aberdeen are keen to get him out on loan for a year and as I say we might need a goalkeeper with Jamie’s Achilles flaring up as it is a bit of a problem area for him.”
