A local boy who lives close to the Bet Butler Stadium, Fleming is enjoying his third season at Dumbarton after moving from Irvine Meadow, and he scored his first league goal of the season in Saturday’s 5-1 defeat to Hearts.

However despite their allegiances to Garry, the bulk of Fleming’s friends and family support Dumbarton’s opponents for the next two weeks, Rangers, and Fleming says they will not be shy in winding him up if things don’t go the Sons way in those games.

He said: “Most of my family are Rangers fans, my mates too. I was getting some stick on Facebook after the last game at Ibrox when we lost 4-1, I’m expecting more of the same if we don’t get a decent result.

“It will be a good challenge for us hopefully we can get a result, then maybe shock them in the cup.

“The motivation is there because it’ll be a big crowd and we’re up against Rangers, the boys are up for it.” Dumbarton’s strength in recent weeks, prior to the Hearts game has been at the back, having only conceded twice and remaining unbeaten since that Rangers defeat and Fleming thinks matches against bigger clubs suit the way Dumbarton have been playing.

He said: “The back four and the goalkeeper have been great. That gives us a solid base in these type of games where we can maybe sit and look to hit them on the break.” The striker thinks that going into games against teams who are fancied to beat the Sons can work in Dumbarton’s favour.

He said: “It is probably slightly different for us when we play other part time teams because more people expect us to win. Sometimes it is easier to go out and play when everyone expects the bigger team to beat you, but we don’t think that way we know we are more than capable of getting good results in these games.”
