Megginson has loved his two year period with Sons so much so that he is keen to stay, despite having ambitions on returning to full-time football one day.

He said: “I love it, all the boys are great and so is the manager. As long as I’m playing well and I manage to keep my place in the team, I’m happy, if I can start scoring again I’ll be happier.

“I just take it season by season, eventually I would like to get back to full-time but I’m more than happy at Dumbarton.

Megginson was disappointed by sons performance in their 3-0 defeat to Queen of the South on Saturday.

The fixture list hasn’t been kind to Sons of late handing them a trip to third placed Queens on the back of matches with Hibs, Hearts and Rangers, but the former Aberdeen man thinks Dumbarton could’ve done more on Saturday to turn their poor run of form around.

He said: “It wasn’t one of our best performances. I thought our performances against Hearts and Rangers were good but we weren’t up to our usual standard on Saturday.

“I don’t know what was up with us I don’t really have an excuse we just didn’t play as well as we should have.” Despite Dumbarton not being at their best, Queens were only out of sight when they scored goals in the 69th and 71st minute. Until then it was only a John Baird penalty that separated the sides.

The decision from the referee to point to the spot for a handball by Sons’ Scott Taggart upset the Dumbarton players.

Megginson explained: “I couldn’t really see it from where I was but in the dressing room at half-time the boys were going mad. I think Tags had his hands at his sides so it wasn’t like he had moved them into the way of the ball.

“It was disappointing because up to that point in the game they hadn’t really threatened us. It just seems like a lot of decisions aren’t going for us just now.” Next week’s trip to Livingston will be a good time for that luck to change for Sons who currently sit just a point ahead of Livi who are second bottom of the league— and Megginson is confident that Dumbarton can take all three point and start climbing the table.

He said: “It is a massive game that we are looking to win. I know the quality we have in the team and the mentality of the boys, we just need it to go on a run like we always seem to do.”
