The 33-year-old has exclusively revealed to the Reporter that he has departed the Rock in order to advance his own coaching career, having signed an 18 month contract with the Blue Brazil.

Under his new contract, the striker will once again combine a playing role with being a member of the club's backroom staff.

He told SportScene: “I just felt it was a good opportunity. I’ve got an 18 month contract with Cowdenbeath, it will give me the chance to progress as a coach and finish my badges.

“On the playing side there won’t be a massive difference I’ll be playing in the same league. It was mainly the coaching side of things that made me decide.

“I want to get into management eventually and this seemed like a good chance to move towards that.” Nish had been manager of Sons' under-20s side this season, but despite making the decision to depart the Rock, Nish insists it was a difficult one to make.

He said: “It was a tough decision because I loved the club, there are great people there. It was especially hard to leave the boys I had in the under-20s team having watched them develop.

“There are a few who will be pushing for a first team place soon and it is disappointing not to be there to see that through.” Read the full story in next week's Dumbarton Reporter
