The Sons midfielder had a chance to make it 2-0 to the home side from the spot but saw his kick saved, Cowdenbeath then took control of the game and won 2-1.

However Murray was quick to defend his player and insists his side should’ve had enough to see the game out, he said: “Some weeks these things change games and in others they don’t.

“There is no blame attached to Scott at all because he has been great for us and I thought he recovered from it really well actually. After he missed it he took the ball, he wanted to play which was good to see.

“There is no doubt the game turned on that incident though. We’ll have to go and analyse what happened.

“We felt in full control of the game. There is always that element of doubt when you miss a penalty or a big chance that it will come back to haunt you and today it did.

“They score the equaliser from our own corner which is probably the most disappointing thing of the game rather than the penalty miss.” Murray chose to leave out midfielder Darren Petrie this week despite him impressing on his debut against Falkirk, he explained it was solely a tactical decision as he opted to set up in a 4-4-2 diamond formation.

He said: “We felt we had to go with two up front today and get Garry Fleming back in the team. Next week will be different at Hibs but we thought this week didn’t suit the 4-2-3-1. Darren did great at Falkirk.

“We wanted someone in the hole causing problems in between the lines of their defence, so we played Dylan Easton in there. I thought if we didn’t have someone there Colin Marshall has the quality to get on the ball and dictate the game.”
