Easton joined Dumbarton in January, on loan from St Johnstone until the end of the season. The move came just weeks after Kane returned to the Perth club after two successful loan spells at Dumbarton.

The 19-year-old had been on loan at League Two outfit Arbroath for a short time but Saints manager Tommy Wright wanted him to play at a higher level. Easton didn’t need much convincing to play in the Championship with Sons and after hearing Kane’s verdict on Dumbarton he jumped at the chance to move.

He told SportScene: “The manager spoke to me about it, saying it could be a possibility with Kano going back to St Johnstone.

“I think Dumbarton were looking for another attacking player because of that. Kano told me that all the boys were easy to get along with and there are good people at the club so it was an easy decision.

“Arbroath tried to extend my loan contract but the manager wanted me to play at a higher level. With the teams that are in this league it will really benefit me for when I go back to St Johnstone.

“The manager spoke to me and said he wants me back next year and that I’ll get opportunities.” Easton has played in left midfield for Sons and also at the tip of a midfield diamond. The ‘number 10’ position is where Easton feels most comfortable, which showed in the recent defeat to Cowdenbeath when he got his chance there, despite the loss Easton put on a good display.

He said: “That’s definitely my preferred position, I like to find pockets and spaces to thread passes through.

“I have played left wing a lot so I’m comfortable there too.” Easton is looking forward to testing himself against the best teams in the league having started in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Hibs.

He said: “Those are the games you want to be playing in, a lot of my mates are at Hibs so there is a bit of banter.

“More people watch those games so if you do well its good to get noticed.”
