Well over 200 people turned out and it’s no surprise as Shay is one of Scottish football’s good guys. This was highlighted not only by the amount of Dumbarton team-mates in attendance, but by the amount of other players from other clubs that have the pleasure to share a dressing room with Shay.

I was delighted to see the auction items going for such high bids, even the signed Dumbarton ball went for £100 quid. Shay has now played for Dumbarton 295 times and despite being in and out of the side in the last two seasons his professionalism has been excellent.

The performance that stuck out for me was at Pittodrie in the Scottish Cup quarter-final. Shay hadn’t played in a few weeks but came back in and made some great saves as we almost caused an upset.

In today’s game testimonials are becoming rarer and rarer. Especially so at the part-time sides where players often get opportunities to go full-time.

Contracts are generally only for 10 months of the year as well which makes ten year service at a club even harder. Shay’s testimonial match is on Sunday, April 12 and I hope as many fans as possible can turn out for it.

I’d also like to thank all the supporters who travelled through to Tynecastle on Saturday. Despite losing the match the fans were in great voice and my dad said the Swiss supporters club were over again which I just find amazing. We have eight games to ensure we are a Championship side again next season and we will need all the backing we can get.
