LOCH Lomond Rugby Club hosted its annual 7s tournament last Saturday, entertaining teams from across the area.
It proved to be an exciting competition, eventually won by high-flying Waysiders-Drumpellier who are currently storming up the national leagues.
Helensburgh, Renfrew, Lanark, Clydebank and Waysiders all entered teams in an effort to win the Stewart Copeland Trophy, but rugby was the real winner with some good enterprise and frequent additions to the blooper reel entertaining the crowd.
Lomond and Waysiders enjoyed flawless progress through their groups and after negotiating tough semi-finals against Lanark and Clydebank respectively collided in the final match of the day.
Lomond took an early lead, but failed to capitalise on it and Waysiders first forced their way level and then ran away with the final, although the eventual score-line of forty-plus points to five flattered them a little.
It was a slightly disappointing way for Lomond to bring the curtain down on their sevens season after winning well in Oban a few weeks ago, but the day was all about enjoyment for players and supporters and in that respect was a resounding success.
Clydebank put in an excellent performance to win the plate competition against Lanark and in the wooden spoon decider, Helensburgh and Renfrew shared the spoils.
Lomond"s players can now look forward to a few weeks of well-earned rest before pre-season training begins in earnest.
