Ardrossan Winton Rovers 1 Vale of Leven 3
VALE of Leven bounced back from their crushing defeat to rivals Yoker by beating Ardrossan 3-1 at Largs on Saturday.
David McNaught netted the opener against Rovers after he headed home from a corner kick. Kenny Wilson doubled Leven's lead before Ryan Russell put the game beyond doubt with a spot kick.
Saturday's match was Vale's second last pre-season game of the season against Orchard Park Mount on Monday.
The competitive action begins on Wednesday for the Milburn Park side in the Sectional League Cup against Renfrew.
Gaffer Hugh Hammill was pleased with the result despite the game not being the most resounding victory.
He said: "We won which is the most important aspect and I'm pleased with the result.
"However, we did not exactly set the heather on fire.
"But these games are valuable for everyone before the competitive action begins. I feel upbeat after what I have seen in pre-season so far.
"A lot of the players I have at the club are experienced men who have been here for a number of years so I'm confident."
Despite the Vale's defeat to Yoker last week, Hammill wasn't too downhearted with the performance of his side as he knew the game could have gone either way.
He added: "It was a bit disappointing losing 2-0 to Athletic. But we could have easily won by a couple of goals ourselves.
"It was a good work-out for everyone and that is the most important part of pre-season."
