Vale of Leven 6 Port Glasgow 0

HUGH HAMILL'S side blasted their way into the next round of the Sectional League Cup with an empthatic 6-0 victory over Port Glasgow at Millburn Park on Wednesday night.

The Vale scored 14 goals without reply to set up a quarter-final tie at home against Lesmahagow and gaffer Hamill is pleased with his team's efforts so far.

He said: "We did well against Port Glasgow.

The important thing is getting the early goal, scoring in the first minute makes a huge difference.

"It's always good to start well.

"We scored first against Greenock as well and it made a big difference, same as Wednesday there.

"It's good to see others chipping in with goals as well.

"We scored 14 in the four games and I think Mark Pawsey scored five, so it's good to know others there are scoring.

"We still have to be realistic though, Greenock and Port Glasgow aren't necessarily the strongest teams we're likely to come up against this season but we've done well."

Talismanic striker Mark Pawsey opened the scoring after just two minutes for the Vale before stand-in captain, Alan Lees doubled their lead after 20 minutes.

Vincent Berry netted two minutes after the restart and Lees slotted home from the spot to make it four.

Two minutes later and Hugh Ward hit the Vale's fifth with Gordon Martin completing the rout with 20 minutes to go.

VALE: Carr, Wilson, McKenzie, Lees, Berry, Buchanan (Filshie 56), Gourlay (Parlane 54), Russell, McNaughty, Ward (Martin 56), Pawsey. UNUSED SUBS: Trialist, Ross, Wilson, MacMillan.
