Relegation woe despite valiant fight

Print | Email

IN the last league game of the season the Vale entertained Hughenden (Hillhead 2nd XI) at Millburn.

Both teams needed a win to help ease relegation worries, however, in the Vale's case, only a win would avoid relegation.

Captain John Birnie won the toss and put the visitors in to bat.

The opening bowling pair of Mohammed Qayyum and Graham Lawrence had Hughenden reeling as they slumped to 26 for three.

But the visitors rallied and managed to finish their innings on 178 for five.

In reply, a solid start by Mohammed Qayyum and Chris Dalby saw 50 runs chalked up very quickly.

However, as Hughenden introduced a slick bowler into the attack the Vale's innings ended on 147 for six - 30 runs short of the winning target.

The draw ended the Vale's stay in division four.

The Vale is the only cricket club in West Dunbartonshire and is looking to recruit new players, especially from the Clydebank, Dumbarton and Vale of Leven areas.

The Vale are always looking for anyone who may wish to take the game up or are looking for a club to play for. Contact Hugh on 0141 951 8133 for more details or visit our web site at http://valeofleven.play-cricket.com/home/home.asp
