Vale of Leven 2 Shotts Bon Accord 1

Having suffered a great psychological blow in their 6-1 defeat at Shotts 10 days previously, Vale deserve great credit for the manner in which they went about righting that wrong on Saturday.

Hugh Hamill's side were not going to be steamrolled this time around as they knew that three points were imperative if the home side were to have any league ambitions this season after just one point from their opening three games.

Vale started positively and after Davie McNaught shot narrowly wide after 17 minutes Vale edged in front four minutes later with a Dougie Wilson strike.

Shotts' McLaughlin came close to levelling the score after 27 minutes when he burst free on the left, but his low shot flew past the far post as fellow striker Duffy tried to make contact.

In the 37th minutes the visitors did grab an equaliser when the broke from deep and lashed the ball home.

But after the interval Vale were more positive and were rewarded with what turned out to be the winning goal after 51 minutes.

Pawsey's initial effort was blocked but David McNaught followed up to stab the ball left footed into the net.

Man-of-the-match was Craig Cavana.

This week Vale are at home once again when Maryhill visit, kick off 2pm.

Vale: Carr; K.Wilson, Drain, Cavana; Berry, Filshie, Lees, Russell (Gourlay 42); D.Wilson (Ward 74), McNaught, Pawsey (Smith 89). Unused Subs: Lacy, Parlane, Ross.
