Vale of Leven 2 Maryhill 1
VALE of Leven recorded a fine win over Maryhill at sun-kissed Millburn Park on Saturday as Alan Gourlay's late strike sealed the win.
The visitors had most of the opening play and as Vale sat back they almost fell behind after 15 minutes when Ferguson pounced to crack a shot from 20 yards against the crossbar.
Alan Filshie had Vale's first effort at goal after 24 minutes when he got on the end of a corner from Vincent Berry, but his header flashed wide of target.
Vale made the breakthrough after 73 minutes when Gourlay's free-kick from the left was headed home by Craig Cavana at the back post.
Maryhill drew level after 81 minutes when the home side failed to deal with a cross from the left, allowing Peter Fraser to hook the ball home from six yards out.
But the Vale would not be denied and grabbed the winning goal with a stunning right-foot shot from Gourlay that flew into the roof of the net.
This week the Vale make the trip to Possilpark to meet Glasgow Perthshire at Keppoch Park and could well be without a few key players.
VALE: Carr; K.Wilson, Drain, Cavana, Gourlay, Filshie (Parlane 56), Lees, Berry (Smith 65), D.Wilson, McNaught (Bowie 45), Pawsey. SUBS: Lacy, Ward, Ross.
