New keeper goes from hero to zero after red card
TEN MAN Dumbarton clawed their way off the foot of the table with a crucial point against Stenhousemuir at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium on Saturday.
After last week's loss at Brechin, gaffer Jim Chapman made sweeping changes with Ross Clark, Denis McLaughlin and captain Michael Dunlop all missing from the squad.
Young Ross Harvey came into the squad but had a nightmare start to his Dumbarton career.
After eight minutes, he misplaced a pass into the path of Scott
Dalziel, then in an attempt to redeem himself, tripped the striker in the penalty area and was cautioned in the process.
Dalziel took the penalty himself but Jan Vojacek pulled off a fine save, diving to his left to keep his side level.
The Sons then took the initiative and forced a number of corners, the best of which saw Roddy Hunter head over from a Chris Craig cross.
But in the final minute of the half, Dumbarton were reduced to 10 men when keeper Vojacek was sent off when he felled Stenny striker Dalziel, who was clean through on goal.
Forward Chris Craig was sacrificed to allow substitute goalkeeper Michael White to take the field.
Dumbarton managed to hold on though for a crucial point
Dumbarton: Vojacek, Geggan, Smith, Harvey, McNiff, McStay, O'Donoghue, (Murray 56), Chaplain, Hunter, (Trialist 56) Carcary, Craig (White 45).
