West Kilbride 0 St Patrick's FC 6

SAINTS thrashed West Kilbride in a difficult trip down the Ayrshire coast on Saturday.

The locals had two early corner kicks and while they came to nothing it encouraged them to persevere with a long ball.

This was before St Pat's got a measure of the conditions and D'anunzio tested John Cullis in the West Kilbride goal with a blast from close-range.

The disappointment seemed to have a detrimental effect on the Ayrshire team's morale and in the 31st minute they paid the price when Martin Currie made a powerful run out on the right before setting up D'anunzio, who drove the ball into the net.

St Pat's took heart from the goal and just before the break they doubled their advantage when Mark

MacLeod casually side-footed the ball home at the front post.

In the second half a slick exchange between Currie and Smith before Gardiner got involved in cutting the ball back into the path of MacLeod, who again side footed the ball home. Then before the hour-mark the visitors were awarded a free-kick after a foul on Gardiner and as the ball was floated into the area Michael King was on hand to head the ball down for D'anunzio to score his second.

Then the attention moved back to MacLeod when he recorded a well-deserved hat-trick soon after with a super drive past the helpless Cullis.

Then into the last minute the Saints once again emphasised their tidy passing and fluid movement with a goal that seemed to involve half the team and ended with a wonderful shot on the volley from John Joyce

Next week league business against Redbrae at Posties, Craigie AFC, who are St Pat's opponents in the West on Scottish Cup business. Kick-off is at 1.45pm.

St Pats: K Connor, A Galloway, N McIntyre, M King, S Gardiner, M Currie, D Ruane, D D'annunzio, J Joyce, T Smith, M MacLeod. Subs: S Marner, K Brown, A Monahan.
