Vale of Leven 0 Canbuslang Rangers 1
VALE'S match was abandoned after just 23 minutes after midfielder Allan Lees suffered a horrific triple leg break following a tackle from behind.
Lees was left in agony after he was on the end of a clumsy challenge from a Gers defender which could sideline him for over a year.
The Vale player was clearly in distress and there was a lengthy delay while the ambulance crew tended to the player.
The referee made the sensible decision to bring the match to an end but he may be side-lined for a lengthy period.
Vale assistant Scott McKernan was gutted for the Vale stalwart and reckons he will be a big loss to the team.
He said: "I have spoken to Allan and he is in a lot of pain at the moment. They have put pins in his shin bone to try and hold it in place. It is a huge loss as he is a very influential player for us. He is one of out most experienced players and they are talking about him being out for a year and a half.
"To be fair to the Cambuslang players, they were very helpful and agreed to have the match abandoned. I don't think the tackle merited a red card - it was just a very clumsy tackle.
"I think it would have been made worse by the playing surface and the players apologised after the match. But it is a real shame for Allan."
Cambuslang had taken the lead after just four minutes when Craig Cavana conceded a spot-kick and Alan McCrae duly slotted the ball low to Carr's right and into the net.
Vale's under-21s had a fine 3-1 win over Kilmarnock Balmoral in the Golden Goal Cup with goals from Craig Cowan, who netted a double, and Dean Docherty.
This week the first team are away from home when they travel to meet Cumbernauld United at Guys Meadow, bus departs Gilmour Street at 11.30am. Meanwhile the under-21s are away to Steins Thistle in Denny.
