The home side never looked convincing in the game and squandered chances to win.

The students never seemed to bother the Saints until the 38th minute of the first half when a defensive lapse allowed their opponents a dangerous cross into the box and there was Andrew Pender to head the ball home.

This did spur on the home side and as they crowded into the University area, Alan Galloway had a go but his fine effort bounced off the far post before being cleared out of play.

This encouraged St Pats to greater effort after the interval and just before the hour mark the home side were back on level terms.

The catalyst was Kevin McElroy, taking control he weaved himself forward before finding Martin Currie who completed the move with a super volley high into the roof of the net.

Things looked to have turned in St.Pats favour but minutes later they were nearly behind again when Smith got through a ruck of defenders but could only hit the base of the goal post with the keeper well beaten.

St Pats reprieve was short lived though when Middleton turned McIntyre out on the left before turning inside to sweep the ball low past Donnelly in the Saints goal.

As expected the home side put the students under extreme pressure and Moore did well to turn a shot from Smith over the bar.

Hoy would also set up a chance but in the blustery conditions the ball flew wide of the target, the same fate befell McElroy and Smith just before the final whistle.
