A large travelling support followed Accies to Clydebank High School to watch their team play against a well organised Goldenhill, who the previous week had narrowly lost on penalties in a replay against last season’s Scottish Cup winners Hurlford.

They were rewarded as a good defensive performance against a strong prevailing wind in the first half was followed by an equally strong offensive second half which saw Accies reach round three with a 2-0 win.

Facing the wind, Accies were defending well and attacking on the break.

In the final minute of the half Accies Connor McGlinchey was released through on goal. As he was ready to shoot he was fouled on the edge of the box. Goldenhill keeper Clarke protested a little too strongly and was booked for his protest.

Having defended well against the strong wind in the first half, Accies management changed the formation at half time to stimulate an attacking setup with the wind for the second half – introducing Michael McEmmerson up front and removing Alan Filshie from midfield.

Similar to Accies in the first half, Goldenhill were trying to attack on the break and a header from Daniel McKenna flashed wide following a set piece.

The outcome of the match was largely decided on the hour mark. A through ball saw home keeper Clarke come rushing outside his box. The keeper then handled the ball due whilst under pressure from Connor McGlinchey. This meant a second yellow for the keeper and he was off.

From the ensuing free-kick Alan Nicholson placed a good shot on target which saw the ball nestle in the bottom corner.

To their credit, the home team kept themselves in the game – hoping to gain an equaliser.

Accies sealed the win on 85 minutes, when forward Connor McGlinchey managed to anticipate a long ball and out-muscle a home defender to gain possession of the ball. His shot left the replacement keeper with no chance.
